'Friends' star Matthew Perry dies at age 54

Aktor Matthew Perry, yang terkenal karena memerankan Chandler Bing di acara TV terkenal  Friends , telah meninggal, menurut beberapa media. Dia berusia 54 tahun.

Perry ditemukan tewas karena tenggelam di rumahnya di Los Angeles pada hari Sabtu, menurut Los Angeles Times , outlet selebriti TMZ  dan laporan lainnya.  

Ketika diminta untuk mengkonfirmasi tanggapan polisi terhadap apa yang terdaftar sebagai alamat rumah Perry, Petugas LAPD Drake Madison mengatakan kepada AP bahwa petugas telah pergi ke blok tersebut "untuk penyelidikan kematian seorang pria berusia 50-an."

Perry berperan dalam  Friends , sitkom yang membuatnya terkenal, pada usia 24 tahun. Dia berperan sebagai Chandler selama 10 musim sitkom tersebut, seorang fobia komitmen yang sarkastik namun ramah yang kemudian menemukan cinta dengan Tipe-A Monica Geller ( Courteney Cox).

"Saya menyukai Chandler, saya menyukai pertunjukannya, dan saya juga tahu: Ingatlah ini, karena ini akan menjadi saat terbaik dalam hidup Anda," kata Perry dalam wawancara  ABC News  Nightline   dengan Diane Sawyer tahun lalu.

Namun di balik layar, Perry berjuang melawan kecanduan. Dia membuka tentang penggunaan alkohol dan pil yang berlebihan selama puluhan tahun dalam memoarnya yang diterbitkan tahun lalu,  Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing . Dalam bukunya, yang ia dedikasikan untuk sesama penderita kecanduan, ia merinci perjuangannya yang menyakitkan melawan penggunaan narkoba dan masalah kesehatan yang terkait dengannya: Ia mengatakan bahwa ia menghabiskan separuh hidupnya dalam pengobatan, melakukan detoksifikasi sekitar 65 kali, dan menjalani 14 operasi.
"Setiap kali saya menemukan sesuatu yang sebenarnya tidak ingin saya sampaikan, saya akan memikirkan orang-orang yang akan saya bantu, dan hal itu akan membuat saya terus maju," kata aktor tersebut kepada The New York Times  tahun  lalu  .

Saat berada di lokasi syuting, Perry mengatakan dia berusaha menyembunyikan kecanduannya dan menggambarkan hubungannya yang tidak sehat dengan pekerjaannya.

"I felt like I was gonna die if the live audience didn't laugh, and that's not healthy for sure," Perry wrote in the memoir. "But I could sometimes say a line and the audience wouldn't laugh and I would sweat and sometimes go into convulsions. If I didn't get the laugh I was supposed to get I would freak out. I felt that every single night. This pressure left me in a bad place. I also knew of the six people making that show, only one of them was sick."
